The program "North Pole 2003" provides:

  1. Visiting the North Pole by tourists;

  2. Carrying out 5-6-days tourist's ski passages on route: Ice Base - North Pole;

  3. Carrying out parachute jumps to the North Pole in 3 options:

    • Parachute jump from aircraft IL-76;

    • Parachute jump from aircraft An-12 (An-26);

    • Parachute jump from helicopter Mi-8;

  4. Carrying out hot-air-balloons flights over the North Pole;

  5. Providing scuba-diving at the North Pole;

  6. Carrying out sport actions (matches) at the North Pole;

  7. Excursion program in Khatanga and Taymyr State Reserve.

  8. Carrying out a public and humanitarian actions according to the program "A Drug Free Planet" and "Dialog Between Civilizations", accomplished under the supervision of the United Nations;

  9. Carrying out a big information and advertisement campaign to the benefit of the sponsors (lifting up a hot-air inflated figures, delivery to the North Pole of sponsor's products for demonstration and advertisement shooting, cargo landing from 500 kg up to several ton).

PROGRAMS

1. Tourist program of the North Pole visiting:

1. Typical itinerary (NP/Ò-01)

Dates: 01/04-07/04/2003; 08/04-14/04/2003; 15/04-21/04/2003; 22/04-28/04/2003.

Day 1 Arrive in Moscow. Welcoming dinner. Transfer to the airport (domestic lines). Depart for Khatanga about midnight.
Day 2 Arrive in Khatanga about 10 a.m. (local time which is 04 hours ahead of Moscow time). Check info a hotel. Rest. Lunch. Dinner
Day 3 Breakfast. Depart by charter plane AN -74/26 to the Ice - runway at approx. 89° N via Severnaya Zemlia (weather and ice condition permitting). Flight duration is about 4,5-5 hours. Helicopter lift to the North Pole. Celebration at the North Pole. Charter flight back to Khatanga.
Day 4 Breakfast. Optional helicopter excursion around Taymyr peninsula (visit muskoxen in Taymyr Nature reserve. Lunch during the trip) or helicopter excursion around Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and local village. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel. Reserve day in case of bad weather.
Day 5 Breakfast. Optional ski-doo excursion in tundra around Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and local village. Lunch in a cabin in tundra. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel. Reserve day in case of bad weather.
Day 6 Flight back to Moscow via Norilsk. Farewell dinner. Hotel accommodation.
Day 7 Depart for home.

Dates: 01/04/2003; 15/04/2003.

Day 1 Arrive in St. Petersburg. Transfer to a hotel. Welcoming dinner.
Day 2 Breakfast. Visit to the Polar Museum. Lunch. Bus sightseeing excursion. Dinner. Transfer to the airport, flight to Khatanga or connecting flight 50 min. to Moscow and Khatanga.
Day 3 Arrive in Khatanga around 10 a.m. (local time which is 04 hours ahead of Moscow time). Check into hotel. Rest Lunch. Information meeting. Dinner.
Day 4 Breakfast. Equipment fitting / control, packing. Lunch. Visit to the local museum. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5 Breakfast. Start by charter plane to the ice runway at approx. 89° N via Severnaya Zemlia (weather and ice condition permitting). Flight duration about 4,5-5 hours. You get a bed in a big warm tent of the ice camp.
Day 6-7 Breakfast. Optional ski tours in the vicinity of the Ice Camp during the day and rest at night in the heated tents of the Ice Camp. You also have a great chance to witness a rich activity of the camp, share the camp with world-class skydivers, scuba divers or Arctic explorers.
Day 8 Breakfast. Helicopter lift to the North Pole. Celebration. Flight back to the Ice Camp. Charter flight to Khatanga. Hotel accommodation.
Day 9 Breakfast. Optional ski-doo excursion in tundra around Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and local village. Lunch in a cabin in tundra. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel. Reserve day in case of bad weather.
Day 10 Regular flight back to St. Petersburg or Moscow. Transfer to a hotel.
Day 11 After breakfast free time for shopping. Transfer to the airport. Depart for home.

2. Skiing to the North Pole (via Khatanga). (NP/L-H-04)

Dates : Period April 05 through April 30, 2003

Day 1 Arrive in St. Petersburg. Transfer to a hotel. Welcoming dinner.
Day 2 Breakfast. Visit to the Polar Museum. Lunch. Bus sightseeing excursion. Dinner. Transfer to the airport, flight to Khatanga or connecting flight 50 min. to Moscow and Khatanga.
Day 3 Arrive in Khatanga around 10 a.m. (local time which is 04 hours ahead of Moscow time). Check into hotel. Rest Lunch. Information meeting. Dinner.
Day 4 Breakfast. Equipment fitting / control, packing. Lunch. Visit to the local museum. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5 Breakfast. Start by charter plane to the ice runway at approx. 89° N via Severnaya Zemlia (weather and ice condition permitting). Flight duration about 4,5-5 hours. Helicopter lift to the starting point depending on ice condition.
Start of ski expedition.
Day 6-11 Skiing to the North Pole.
Day 12 Arrive to the North Pole. Celebration. Helicopter lift back to the Ice Camp. Charter flight to Khatanga. Hotel accommodation.
Day 13 Reserve in case of bad weather or sightseeing. Hotel accommodation.
Day 14 Regular flight back to St. Petersburg or Moscow. Transfer to a hotel.
Day 15 After breakfast free time for shopping. Transfer to the airport. Depart for home.

3. Parachute programs:

1. Parachutes Jumps with the use of the plane IL-76 (NP/P-05)

Estimated date of departure from Moscow: April 10th. 2003.
Itenerary can be changed within a limit of 2-3 days depending on the weather.

Day 1 Arrival in Moscow. Transfer to the hotel *** (double rooms), check-in of all participants, general assembly, check of equipment, preparation for the flight to Khatanga.
Day 2 Transfer to the airport, boarding of the plane IL-76, flight to Khatanga, accommodation in hotel, acclimatization to lower temperatures, sightseeing of the town of Khatanga. Preparation for the trip to Ice Camp.
Day 3-4 Start of an advance support party (the chief of the parachute jumps with experts, representatives of MASS-MEDIA etc.) on the route Khatanga - Ice Camp (89°N). Flight duration about 4,5-5 hours.
Optional: an excursion program Khatanga; a training jump with MI-8 (AN-2) in the area of the river Khatanga; preparation of parachutes jumps on the geographical North Pole.
Day 5 Flight of the IL-76 with skydivers to the North Pole. Execution of all activities on the North Pole within the framework of the programs of the United Nations "Dialogue between civilizations" and "the Planet without drugs".
Day 6 Returning of the skydivers and other participants of the expedition from the North Pole to Khatanga.
Day 7 Removal of Ice Camp on the Pole and Ice Base, and flight from Ice Base to Khatanga.
Day 8-9 Optional: A ski-doo excursion around the Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and a local village. Lunch in a cabin in the tundra. A helicopter excursion around Taymyr peninsula (see the muskoxen in Taymyr Nature reserve, lunch during the trip). Or a helicopter excursion around Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and local village. One night at the hotel. Reserve day in case of bad weather on the pole.
Day 10 Flight Khatanga - Moscow, transfer to the hotel, festive supper, presentation of diplomas.
Day 11 Flying home of all participants of the expedition from Moscow.

2. Parachutes Jumps with the use of the helicopter of MI-8 (NP/P-06)

Day 1 Arrival in Moscow. Transfer to the hotel *** (double rooms), check-in of all participants, general assembly, check of equipment, preparation for the flight to Khatanga.
Day 2 Transfer to the airport, boarding of the charter plane IL-18, flight to Khatanga, accommodation in hotel, acclimatization to lower temperatures, sightseeing the town of Khatanga. Preparation for the trip to Ice Camp.
Day 3 Optional: a ski-doo excursion around the Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and a local village. Lunch in a cabin on the tundra. One night at the hotel.
Day 4 Khatanga: a training jump with MI-8 (AN-2) in the area of the river Khatanga; preparation of the parachutes jumps on the North Pole.
Day 5 Start of the plane AN-74 (AN-26) on the route: Khatanga - Ice Camp (89°N). Flight duration about 4,5-5 hours. Flight by helicopter MI-8 to the North Pole and execution of parachute jumps with favorable weather and ice conditions. Execution of all activities on the North Pole within the framework of programs of the United Nations "Dialogue between civilizations" and "The Planet without drugs".
Day 6 Returning of skydivers and other participants of the expedition from the North Pole to Khatanga.
Day 7 Removal of the Ice Camps on the Pole and Ice Base and flight from Ice Base to Khatanga.
Day 8-9 Optional: a ski-doo excursion around the Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and a local village. Lunch in a cabin on the tundra. Helicopter excursion around Taymyr peninsula (visit of muskoxen in Taymyr Nature reserve, lunch during the trip), or helicopter excursion around the Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and a local village. One night at the hotel. Reserve day in case of bad weather on the pole.
Day 10 Flight Khatanga - Moscow, transfer to the hotel, celebration dinner, delivery of diplomas.
Day 11 Flying home of the expedition participants from Moscow.

3. Parachutes Jumps with the use of the plane of AN-12/AN-26 (NP/P-07)

Day 1 Arrival in Moscow. Transfer to the hotel *** (double rooms), check-in of participants, general assembly, check of equipment, preparation for the flight to Khatanga.
Day 2 Transfer to the airport, boarding of the charter plane of AN-18, flight from Moscow - Khatanga, accommodation in hotel, acclimatization, acquaintance to the city of Khatanga. Preparation for a start to Ice Base.
Day 3-4 Start of an advance party of support (the head of parachute jumps with experts, representatives of MASS-MEDIA etc.) from Khatanga - Ice Air Station (89°N).
Optional: a ski-doo excursion around the Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and a local village. Lunch in a cabin on the tundra. Helicopter excursion around Taymyr peninsula (visit muskoxen in Taymyr Nature reserve, lunch during the trip), or helicopter excursion around the Khatanga area visiting reindeer herds and a local village. One night at the hotel. Khatanga: the training jump with MI-8 (AN-2) in the area of the river Khatanga. Preparation of parachutes jumps on the Pole.
Day 5 Start of the plane AN-12 (AN-26) for parachutes jumps on North Pole. Execution of all activities on the geographical North Pole within the framework of programs of the United Nations "Dialogue between civilizations" and "The Planet without drugs".
Day 6 Returning of skydivers and other participants of expedition from North Pole to Khatanga.
Day 7 Removal of the Ice Camps on the Pole and Ice Base, and the flight from Ice Base to Khatanga.

Additional information:

LIST OF RECOMMENDED PERSONAL GEAR

  1. Warm individual sleeping-bag designed for minus 35 degrees centigrade, a rug;

  2. Warm cloth (shoes, overalls, jackets, gloves, sweaters, special wind-proof woolen masks, sun glasses);

  3. The rest depends on your needs, but remember the cargo weight transporting for free (see the price list).

For skiers:

  1. Ski poles: preferable one piece poles. 1 pair;

  2. Skis with ski mountaineering bindings and skins: The skis should be Alpine touring skis. The climbing skins should be long enough to reach from the top to the bottom of the ski.;

  3. Boots: Depending on ski bindings use Everest One Sport boots (or similar) or Sorel mukluks. Avoid tight fit with heavy socks;

  4. Carabiners: 4 regular;

  5. Cord: length 10m, diameter 6 mm.;

  6. Harness: Harness should have shoulder and waist units. Possible and preferable to use small backpack with waist strap instead of a harness;

  7. Expedition weight underwear: 1 pair;

  8. Light weight underwear: 2 pairs;

  9. Pile jacket & pants: 300 fleece with full side zips;

  10. Down jacket: Expedition weight with hood. Needs to fit over all insulation layers. Must be windproof;

  11. Gore-Tex shell top & bottom: Full side zips and bibs recommended;

  12. Pile gloves: 2 pairs, expedition weight;

  13. Pile Mitts and Gor-Tex or Windblock overmitts: 1 pair;

  14. Hand warmer: Optional;

  15. Wool or pile socks: 3 pair heavy weight;

  16. Silk liners: 3 pair lightweight;

  17. Vapor barrier socks: Optional;

  18. Wool or pile ski hat;

  19. Balaclava: 1 heavy weight, 1 light weight. Heavy weight should fit over light weight;

  20. Neoprene face mask: Optional;

  21. Glacier glasses: 100% UV & IR, must have side covers;

  22. Sleeping bag: Expedition quality to at least -25C;

  23. Ridge Rest sleeping pad;

  24. Therma Rest pad with repair kit;

  25. Tent booties or GORE-TEX socks: Optional;

  26. Swiss Army knife.

For skydivers:

  1. Warm and comfort cloth for parachute jumps;

  2. Goggles;

  3. Helmet;

  4. Parachute suit and rigging (use only square parachute).

  5. N.B. The temperature on the ground minus 35 degrees centigrade, in the air minus 50 C.
