Belgians Alain Hubert and Dixie Dansercoer departed March 1 on their Arctic crossing from Siberia to Greenland via the North Pole - but not right from the coast. The skiers chose to be flown 70 km north over a large open water area right off Cape Arktichevsky.

On Canada's side of the Arctic, Ann Bancroft, Liv Arnesen, Rosie Stancer and Richard Weber's team departed from Ward Hunt island towards the North Pole on Wednesday. Will Steger is forging ahead through the Inuit villages of Baffin Island, and in Svalbard, Frozen Five team member Kim has reached Longyearbyen three weeks before departing on a Spitsbergen crossing, but just in time to see the sun lighten up the town after months of Arctic night.

The group of radio operators of Expedition Center “Arctic” was participated into ARRL International EME Competition 2006 under UA3DJG call-sign. The station consisted of a portable 3.6 m stressed dish with f/d = 0.4 and DFC septum/choke horn feed, RIG transverter (2 m/23 cm), PA with 300 W out and 36077 LNA (all homebrew). In October part we went to KO85xf and during 8 hours of operation made 8 contacts (all on random CW). QSO’d were HB9BBD, G4CCH, OK1CA, SM4DHN, HB9SV, HB9Q, RW1AW and OH2DG. In November part we made another 5 contacts: VK3UM, F2TU, K2UYH, K0YW, OZ4MM. Some pictires were added to the photogallery.

Two new sections of the photo gallery were recently added: selected images from the third stage of the “Polar Ring” expedition and 2006 FD VHF HAM-radio contest.
